Take it Down a Notch

Slow down! Literally. San Francisco is lowering the speed limit from 25mph to 20mph in areas that have a high incidence of pedestrian and bicyclist serious injuries and deaths due to cars. It’s part of Vision Zero SF, dedicated to reducing that to zero.

To spread the word, Outreach Ambassadors went to street fairs and events in those neighborhoods, explaining how and why the speed is changing, in appropriate languages for each neighborhood (English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese and Filipino). They handed out language-appropriate flyers and put up posters in shops and stores.

Billboards and digital ads went broader so that drivers entering those areas would know they need to slow down or be ticketed. And a children’s coloring and activity book, “Vision Zero Hero!” brings children into some of the most important parts of Vision Zero, such as sticking to the speed limit and making good left turns.
