Rick Tollefson Memorial Trail
The Chimacum Valley agricultural area of the northeastern Olympic Peninsula features many small locally owned farmsteads and incubator farms, along with camping, walking trails and biking trails.
The Rick Tollefson Memorial Trail winds through scenic Chimacum Valley farmlands and includes a rest area with seating and an 80-foot pedestrian bridge for crossing Chimacum Creek. The bridge is one of the special features of the trail, providing a place to watch salmon and observe nearby natural areas along the creek. Artist-designed interpretive signs at the bridge and at other viewpoints along the trail tell story of people, farming and restoration in Chimacum Valley. The trail corridor includes site furnishing such as fences, benches and bike racks. The trail surface is compacted crushed rock. Whenever possible, construction of the trail used local materials and local technical talent.
The Tollefson Trail provides safe, non-motorized travel between Chimacum and Port Hadlock, connecting two existing parks and providing an educational enhancement to the community—an important element of the Jefferson County Non-Motorized Transportation & Recreational Trails Plan.
The trail was named for Tollefson, a long-time County employee who believed that trails can play a critical role in connecting communities.
