Public Art: Shhh Pavillion: The Hopekeeper | gt2P
Shhh Pavilion: The Hopekeeper, is now a sculptural landmark fusing art, science and nature. It’s installed in the waterfront Progress Park, part of downtown San Diego’s Research and Development District (RaDD), a life sciences mixed-use district, developed by IQHQ, a premier life science real estate development company.
Created by the renowned Chilean studio collective gt2P (great things to People), Shhh the Hopekeeper’s barnacle-like, polygonal structure reflects the natural beauty of the shore, evoking memories of childhood exploration. Known for using materials like volcanic rock, gt2P has become a global leader in public art, and this sculpture showcases its innovative approach, blending natural inspiration with structural artistry. This design invites visitors to ponder the harmony between art and science.
The RaDD campus spans five urban blocks, merging life sciences, technology, and public art. MIG oversaw the commission and management of nearly 19 artworks at RaDD, including the Hopekeeper, murals, and digital installations. With a $10 million budget, MIG coordinated artist selection, fabrication, installation, and maintenance, ensuring that art enhances the campus’s community appeal and enriches the waterfront experience.
