Long Beach Transit Mall
Lingering in a Transit Mall
You just might miss your bus, ambling along the sandy-textured concrete sidewalk, finding mosaic starfish, crabs and other unexpected sea creatures. This three-block Transit Mall in downtown Long Beach reflects a shoreline theme, with eight wave-inspired suspended tensile fabric canopies sheltering free-form seating. The illuminated bus shelter canopies include real-time digital information screens, and new pedestrian lighting between the shelters provides a pleasing nighttime experience. The result is a dramatic, beautiful, identifiable and sustainable transit mall in the heart of the City. We provided schematic designs and construction documents.
