CPRS California Action Plan
What are the emerging trends and priorities influencing parks and recreation across California and how do we respond to them? We collaborated with the California Park & Recreation Society (CPRS) to determine just that.
The resulting California Action Plan (CAP) is a comprehensive resource for park and recreation professionals, providing the policies and tools needed to capitalize on new opportunities and respond proactively to anticipated challenges.
We created the CAP design, brand and outreach process that invited more than 15,000 CPRS leaders, members, academics and allied professionals across the State to re-imagine the future of parks and recreation. Through the use of social media, questionnaires, interactive online platforms, polling technology, video conferencing, focus groups, and pop-up activities, we built consensus around our shared mission to enhance California communities through people, parks and programs.
The CAP defines our new Statewide vision, values, core competencies, and overarching goals for the park and recreation profession. More importantly, it provides useful tools and actions to improve our collective effectiveness in five key areas: advocacy, communication, evaluation, innovation and collaboration. Together, these directives and tools are helping park advocates craft and deliver a compelling narrative about parks and recreation that resonates with diverse communities across California.
In addition to the published document, the California Action Plan includes an interactive online resource that allows users to download materials and share tools of their own.
