Colorado Convention Center Master Plan

Expanding Right Up Into the Rockies

For many visitors, the Colorado Convention Center is their first glimpse of Denver. And conventions are a very competitive market. The CCC has a tremendous impact on the economic health and very identity of Denver. So it needed a forward-looking Master Plan to take it through an expansion with much-needed technological upgrades, more amenities and community spaces and an enhanced sense of place. MIG led planning and design and managed a multidisciplinary team in transportation, parking, technology, sustainability, and architecture to guide the CCC in the next decade.

The new Plan is based on integrated and tiered phases of development that can be implemented as funding is available. It calls for expanding up rather than out, with a rooftop terrace offering views of the Rockies, developing outdoor event space and multi-use flex spaces with moveable walls and furnishings, increasing connections to the nearby Preforming Arts Complex and focusing on the arrival experience. For example, a new entry way on the south end will help activate a surrounding area that is currently underused. A major focus of the plan is to ensure that the CCC is a premiere meeting and convention space strongly connected to the rest of downtown Denver and Colorado.

After implementation, the result will be a convention center with class-leading spaces and technologies, and one-of a-kind experiences that attendees can’t get anywhere else.
