Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum Design
A Reforestation Corridor
Atlanta is reusing an old rail right-of-way to create the BeltLine Arboretum. The 23-mile arboretum corridor will be a “green necklace” linking Atlanta’s many neighborhoods, parks and urban nodes. We created the conceptual plan with a framework of four layers: landform, floor and guideway, trail and transit and canopy. Trees Atlanta, a nonprofit group dedicated to planting and conserving trees, is planting hundreds of thousands of native trees, plants, wildflowers and grasses. When completed, the BeltLine will be city-scale mix of existing and cultivated tree species—an urban forest, an ecological connector, a corridor for scientific research and a collection of public spaces.
