Current Planning - Public Agency Assignments: Assistant, Associate and Senior Planner Positions

We are seeking experienced Assistant, Associate and Senior planners for possible assignment to public agencies or to work on the entitlement processing of public or private sector projects. We have current opportunities available and we are establishing a list of potential planners for positions that may become available in the near future. We also appreciate those who require flexibility in work schedules; we’re accepting applications for both full-time and part-time positions. Depending on the specific clients’ preferences, this position will likely need some work on-site/in-person. 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborative Teammate Working Directly with Clients: You will work as part of a cross-office, cross-discipline team that provides a full range of planning services to public agencies.
  • Project Work: You will work on-site at public agencies or at MIG offices to facilitate development entitlements and to implement planning programs for public and private-sector projects. In addition to on-site client services, you will have the opportunity to support a team of planners, designers, and Project Managers in all aspects of other planning projects, including meeting facilitation, research, writing, development of materials, meeting support, content analysis, administration and client interaction.
  • Project Types: The projects you will typically work on will focus on implementation of general plans, specific plans, downtown plans, and municipal codes.

In addition, you have some combination of the following qualifications depending on your level of experience/position to which you are applying:

Assistant Planner

  • A Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a related field
  • One or more years of experience working with a city or county in current planning and entitlement processing. Strong experience as an intern in a municipal current planning department is acceptable
  • Strong written and oral communication skills 
  • Understanding and experience with CEQA is desirable

Associate Planner

  • A Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a related field
  • Three or more years of experience working with a city or county, in current planning and entitlement processing
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and experience in presentations before advisory bodies and/or City Councils 
  • Experience in preparing and processing CEQA documents

Senior Planner

  • A Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a related field 
  • Five or more years of experience working with a city or county in the current planning and entitlement processing 
  • Project management experience, dealing with complex projects
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and experience in presentations before advisory bodies and/or City Councils
  • Experience in processing CEQA documents, including Environmental Impact Reports
  • Experience with NEPA processing is desirable
