T+C Park Receives ASLA Merit Award Winner

This month, T+C Park (Town and Country Park) received a 2024 Merit Award from ASLA San Diego.

Located in the Central Mission Valley area, MIG provided comprehensive landscape architectural services, including general development planning and community engagement, design development, construction documents and construction administration for the 3.31-acre park.

Prior to the master plan, the park site was comprised of surface parking lots extending within a few feet of the San Diego River.

Design elements for the park include a new ADA-compliant pedestrian bridge over the San Diego River—which is also part of the San Diego River Trail—as well as a variety of landscaped and paved areas for small and large gatherings, interpretive totems made from the felled Eucalyptus trees, multiple stormwater treatment areas, and extensive use of native vegetation.

Park designers collaborated extensively with the developer and the City of San Diego over a five-year period beginning with the master plan. Multiple presentations and workshops were held with nearby stakeholders including the Mission Valley Planning Group, Fashion Valley, and the San Diego River Park Foundation.

T+C Park is an excellent example of the trend in public city parks that are funded and built by private developers and relinquished to the city as a public park after construction.
