UC Berkeley Rausser College Strategic Plan
The Rausser College of Natural Resources is the first college in the University of California system, dating back to the formation of the College of Agriculture in 1868, which later became UC. The College focuses on increasing society’s understanding of the earth and the environment, and how humans and nature interact—working in the biological, physical and social sciences to provide the tools to protect the Earth’s natural resources.
In response to research, academic and funding changes, the College needed a strategic planning process to develop a clear path forward for implementing initiatives and programs that will ensure the College’s continued success, with an emphasis on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB). The iterative process involved internal and external College stakeholders and constituents through Steering Committee and Working Group meetings, a Collegewide planning charrette and forum, interviews and a Collegewide survey.
The new strategic plan document describes the College’s educational planning context; vision, values, mission, and goals; objectives and performance measures; and implementation processes. The action-oriented plan focuses the college’s resources on major new programs and initiatives.
