OJAMA Public Art Installation

Joyfully Serious Art

Participating in the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center’s vision to “joyfully and mindfully use arts and culture to engage with our diverse community,” we developed a temporary art installation—an exploration of space, time and our experience of the natural world. Using straw wattles (tube-shaped erosion control devices filled with straw) as a medium, we examined how we respond to nature’s interruption of the manufactured environment.
