Cosumnes Parks, Recreation & Facilities Master Plan
How do you keep up with the recreation needs of a growing, multicultural community? Engage residents in planning the roadmap for the future of their parks and recreation services.
Elk Grove, just south of Sacramento, had more than doubled in population in less than 20 years. It (through the Cosumnes Community Services District) needed to keep providing the exceptional parks, facilities and programs residents enjoyed, and at the same time meet increased demand for services.
The “Plan for Play” was developed with the help of a diverse cross-section of the community, using a wide variety of engagement tools: community workshops, focus groups, Facebook Live and Mapita—a web-based, mobile-friendly interactive mapping tool.
New technical analysis and the public involvement data led to the new goals, objectives and recommendations that are contained in the Plan, which capitalizes on the agency’s financial stability, strong leadership team and track record of excellent service.
The Plan outlines strategies and projects, and provides decision-making tools that will help staff strengthen and improve programs, facilities, partnerships and operations for sustained future success—ensuring parks and recreation experiences that are accessible, equitable and responsive to Elk Grove’s diverse community.
