SA Parks System Plan

4 Rs for the Future

San Antonio is planning boldly. Its new Parks System Plan builds on our innovative work on the SA Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan and guides future planning decisions about expansion, capital improvements and programming of the more than 250 City-owned parks and recreational facilities, the over 16,000 acres of green space and more than 200 miles of trails.

The strategic plan and actions are organized around four goals: responsive, restorative, resilient and resourceful.

We applied Trust for Public Land data from both City Park Facts and ParkScore to establish comparison benchmarks with other Texas cities and analyzed the challenges of applying the 10-minute walk standard. The plan, compliant with Texas Parks & WiIdlife Department planning requirements, also includes an assessment of the Urban Forestry Program. For effective implementation, the plan aligns efforts across a network of agencies and partners to make the best use of every public and private dollar invested in the green spaces, waterways and community amenities.
