UCSF Long Range Development Plan

Community-Based Campus Planning

University growth is always a sensitive issue for the surrounding community. UCSF’s new Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) was guided by community goals and objectives in relation to expanding the existing campus and developing a new 43-acre Mission Bay campus on the east side of San Francisco. The LRDP sets forth a comprehensive long-term plan to help the campus translate academic program needs into future physical planning needs and requirements.

The comprehensive public information and involvement program during the LRDP process included newsletters, presentations and fact sheets, as well as community meetings and workshops held during the different technical phases of work on the LRDP and EIR. A 25-member community task force developed 40 Planning Principles to guide campus development. These principles are already informing and guiding UCSF real estate activities. With a 20-year-long relationship with UCSF, we are continuing to work with the community on development of the new campus.
