Houston Zoo Gorillas of the African Forest

Gorillas of the African Forest expands the south end of the zoo into a rich, immersive experience interpreting the Congo Basin. Under a majestic tree canopy at the edge of a forest clearing, an elevated luxury tent camp blends seamlessly into a stunning landscape. Each tent in the camp provides a different view and experience of gorillas and red river hogs that share the same habitat. As visitors move through the exhibit, themed interpretive and wayfinding elements throughout provide useful information and informal education opportunities. Visitors learn what makes the Congo one of the most biologically diverse regions of the world, how animals interact with each other in this environment, the impacts humans have on these remote areas, and the conservation challenges facing the region and its wildlife.
