University of Wyoming LRDP

The main University of Wyoming campus in Laramie has been a pillar of higher education in Wyoming since its establishment in 1866, the only provider of baccalaureate and graduate education in the state. The entire campus community and Laramie stakeholders contributed to the University’s first Long Range Development Plan, which balances current and future interests and maximizes the potential for the highest quality learning, research and exchange of ideas.

The Plan is now guiding how long-term physical development will maintain the campus as a great place, ensuring that open space, circulation and parking are addressed with each development phase and each project, rather than playing catch up later. Historically, the east side of the campus was 15th Street and a large cemetery. As the campus grew, it leapt over the street and cemetery, resulting in physical barriers separating east and west campus. The new design for 15th Street creates stronger east-west connections for pedestrians, cyclists and shuttles, and plans for appropriate siting of uses across a very long, linear campus.

Overall, the Plan is an organizing armature for future campus development, covering campus uses, open space, circulation and parking, student housing, signage and wayfinding, and utilities and infrastructure. It’s also encouraging long-term partnerships with the Laramie School District and Laramie County Community College to help students transition to a University, and growing a business incubator to promote private industry and public-private partnerships.
