African Adventure at Fresno Chaffee Zoo Exhibit Design
Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s African Adventure highlights the diversity of life found within the Serengeti and Tarangire Nationals Parks of Eastern Africa, featuring elephant, giraffe, rhinoceros, lion, zebra and cheetah. We provided architecture, landscape architecture, interpretive planning and animal exhibit design.
Over the 20 aces of exhibit space, visitors explore paths through four major zones representing the changing landscapes of the savanna. Unique, fully accessible viewing areas, such as a giraffe-feeding platform, provide opportunities for up-close encounters and personal interactions with the animals. Interpretive messages are closely integrated into the exhibit experience, and activities throughout the exhibit challenge visitors to compare their own abilities with the special adaptations of African animals, such as racing a cheetah, leaping like gazelle or climbing like a colobus monkey.
Other features of this award-winning exhibit include a safari tent camp, a picturesque storytelling and gathering spot, a thatched-roof African Lodge with a restaurant and private dining, state-of-the-art animal holding and service facilities.
