Yesler Terrace Infrastructure

Envision a network of streets that link residents to a new streetcar line and knit the housing into the surrounding community. Streets, parks and gardens work together as a vibrant and connected public realm. It’s being built right now at Yesler Terrace, Seattle’s oldest public housing complex. The 561 existing subsidized housing units on the 37-acre site will become developing a high density, mixed-use neighborhood with about 5,000 new housing units in a range of income levels. It’s being transformed into a diverse, modern, urban community—with subsidized housing to ensure that current residents can continue to live in their community.

Our work included early programming, sustainability review, redevelopment studies, infrastructure capacity analysis, infrastructure pricing and long range budgeting, development phasing analysis, and entitlement and cost sharing strategies. We provided technical analysis for the Planned Action EIS. Our expedient work resulted in the production of demolition, utility, streets and landscape plans on schedule, allowing the Seattle Housing Authority and  City of Seattle departments to identify bid packages for each construction season. We continue to work as the landscape architecture and civil engineering firm for the project, leading the design and development of infrastructure and open space.

When the redevelopment is done, about 6,900 people will live in a neighborhood that only 1,200 called home when construction started.
