City of Hope: Healing Park Sculpture

Visibly Invisible

In times of difficulty, people often instinctively look to the sky, seeking solace. The tranquil Hope & Healing Park on the City of Hope campus offers patients and their families a peaceful sanctuary for reflection, respite and connection with nature. The concept of looking skyward inspired gt2P’s artwork for the park, “Leave Shaders.”  A studio of artists, gt2P (great things to People) was originally established in Chile and now works internationally. Their goal for the park was to create shade structures that offer a space for rest and reflection without obstructing the view of the sky.

These sculptural shelters, shaped like cocoons, are composed of metallic “leaves” that provide shade while framing the sky above, balancing both shelter and openness. The leaf shapes echo Rousseau’s “The Dream,” blending natural elements with the landscape to create a dreamlike, reflective space.

Commissioned by City of Hope under MIG’s curatorial direction and installed by Ignition Arts, this project embodies harmony between form and function, inviting visitors to pause and reflect in nature.
